SOME MORE TIPS FROM A 4.0 STUDENT!

  1. IF YOU HAVE TIME, DO IT AGAIN. You’re more likely to retain information if you do/see something more than once. If you have time, reread the chapter. Redo the work. Revisit old topics.
  2. DON’T BOTHER MAKING YOUR CLASS NOTES PRETTY. The most important parts of your class notes is making sure they’re 1. Legible and 2. Understandable. You can make them pretty later. Just focus on getting down whatever you need.
  3. SIT IN THE FRONT OF THE CLASS. My grades improved when I did this. Partly because I have myopia, and partly because sitting in the very front forces you to be more engaged. It’s a form of self discipline.
  4. ASK FOR EXTRA WORK. Depending on the teacher, you don’t actually have to do the work. The fact that you even asked shows that you’re committed. Teachers dig commitment.
  5. HAVE A GO-TO WAKE UP METHOD. Whether it’s coffee or Redbull, have something which will wake you up in case you need it. You’re not productive when you’re about to collapse from exhaustion.
  6. DON’T BE AFRAID TO BE A KISS-ASS SOMETIMES IF IT GETS YOU THAT GRADE. In 5 years, you won’t care much about how many annoying stories you had to listen your teacher tell. You’ll care way more about the grade.
  7. SET ACHIEVABLE, YET AMBITIOUS GOALS. Have something to work towards. It’s much easier to work when you have a goal in mind.
  8. AND, LASTLY, DON’T BLAME YOURSELF TOO MUCH. Hating yourself won’t change that C into a B+. In fact, it won’t do anything. All you can really do is get up and vow to come back stronger than before. Mistakes are only human, after all.

the worst thing about comparing ourselves, is that we have such an ugly image of ourselves. you don’t see how many smiles you gave others, or the people who love you for being yourself. you don’t see how lovely you look when the sunlight hits your eyes, or your little accomplishments. you only see what you lack. you could be the prettiest garden and want to cry because another garden has different flowers. you could be the sweetest peach in the world and still hate yourself because you’re not a strawberry. you’re comparing the worst version of yourself to the best version of others. you don’t appreciate or see what you do have. it is a really toxic mindset where whatever you do, you will never be enough. you might think, i wish i was the prettiest, or smartest or most popular. but in reality, even if you were all those things, you will still find what you don’t have. it’s a never-ending thing, and comparisons will kill you. there are more important things in life to spend time on. why not spend the 86,400 seconds you have in every day to love yourself, see your worth and better yourself? why not draw or study hard or play a sport because you love it and it makes you happy, rather than be sad or lie in bed, just because there is someone else who did those things better, or earlier? why not love your beautiful features, because someone else’s beauty doesn’t take away yours (and you don’t know how many people have admired you too!) you don’t need to be the best. if you do something and you love it, that’s more than enough. if you feel good in your skin, and love yourself because peaches are as amazing as strawberries but in different ways, that’s more than enough. you don’t need other people in the picture. you are already more than enough.

  • Wake up and open your curtains. Your windows too.
  • Drink some tea or coffee, whatever pleases you. Notice every sip.
  • Have some fresh fruit and finish breakfast feeling full.
  • Stand outside and feel the air. Cool or warm, it will make you feel real.
  • Get some exercise. Yoga to soothe, running to breathe, lifting for strength.
  • Take care of your body. Have a nice shower and pamper as much as you want afterward.
  • If you’re going to work, remember you have the chance to make anyone’s day or to ruin it. Act accordingly.
  • Weed out the bad language. It’s only creating tension in your body and mind. Kind words are infinitely more appreciated.
  • Take some time each day to improve your mind. Keep reading that great book. Listen to an incredible piece of music. Practice an instrument or a skill. The progress is its own reward.
  • Pictures will help you remember how wonderful life is. But spend less time on your phone and more time seeing the world face to face.
  • Go to sleep knowing that you have done well. Tomorrow is there with room to become even better.
